Stirling is a short drive from Edinburgh, where we’ll make our first stop – Stirling Castle. Ideally located, it offers beautiful views of the Wallace monument and the Highlands, our next stops. After leaving historically filled Stirling, we head to the mythical Highlands, starting by Etive Mor, one of the best-known Munro peaks. Glen Etive is a short drive away and a familiar site to the James Bond movies fans – here, think of Skyfall. As if that was not amazing enough, Glencoe is next on our list. We finish this first day in Fort William, at the foot of the tallest mountain in the United Kingdom, Ben Nevis.
Our second day starts with Neptune staircase, and you will see how important the waterways was – and is – to the Scots. Then, after spectacular views of Loch Eil, we head to Glenfinnan trail view and viaduct – a familiar site to the Harry Potter fans – and the Jacobite memorial, nestled in an idealistic site. We finish the day with sights of two of the most beautiful lochs in Scotland – Loch Shiel and Loch Ness (keep your eyes open for Nessie!!!) For those who want to delay their stay in Drumnadrochit, there’s an option to visit Urquart Castle. It overlooks Loch Ness and was once one of Scotland’s greatest castles.
Our third day starts by seeing us on our way to Inverness. Next to the city is an amazing site, Culloden battlefield. Fans of Outlander know this site, which is where the 2nd Jacobite uprising came to a tragic end, in 1746. From there, a five-minutes’ drive takes us to the 4000 years old site of the Clava Cairn’s burial chambers. Next, we head down through the magnificent Cairngorms National Park and make a last stop to the Dalwhinnie distillery.
